i gotta find a new place where the kids are hip.

I haven’t blogged in a while, making me think perhaps I should do quick hits when I don’t have time to write a whole post.

Here’s one:

You know what song I love? ‘I Get Around’ by The Beach Boys.

I love it for lots of reasons, it has everything that makes The Beach Boys great, and Brian Wilson a genius. Yet, today the primary reason I love it is the line:

/ my buddies and me are gettin’ real well known / yeah, the bad guys know us and they leave us alone /

Isn’t that so hilariously ridiculous? The Beach Boys are a lot of wonderful things, none of those things are tough. The idea of it just makes me laugh every time:

The beaches of Southern California in the 1960’s. A hotbed for outlaw biker gangs, most notably Hells Angels, and yet the “bad guys” were intimidated by the harmonious crooning of The Beach Boys.

Amazing. If only the world really worked that way.

  1. Yeah, I understand what you are saying the flowered shirts, surf boards, and Woody’s don’t seem scary. However, if you read the history the Beach Boys would slay people with those harmonious sounds. It was the 1960’s version of battle raps. Just don’t even question it! Beach Boys for life!
